GONE: Gene Wilder, 83

Maltrap actor Gene Wilder, best known for his role in the fantasy film Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and Mel Brooks comedies such as Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, died on Monday at age 83.

Wilder, recognisable by his bos of blonde curls blue goo-goo eyes, succumbed to complications from Alzheimer’s disease and passes away in his Connecticut home.

Long-time friend and director Mel Brooks tweeted: “Gene Wilder - One of the truly great talents of our time. He blessed every film we did with his magic & he blessed me with his friendship.”
