The long weekend past was packed with activity as Youth Day was celebrated across South Africa.
The Cape Spy team caught up with the lucky youngsters who made it through to the theatre auditions for SA’s Got Talent Season 8.
The Cape Town auditions were filmed at the Baxter Theatre on Saturday and Sunday. Among the locals were also a few hopefuls from the Eastern Cape and Durban.
That’s because theatre auditions are only being hosted in two cities this year – Cape Town and Johannesburg – so contestants have to make their way to their nearest city.
The three judges – DJ Fresh, Shado Twala and Jamie Bartlett – each had one Golden Buzzer to give away during the theatre auditions.
And Cape Spy was there to witness the first Golden Buzzer, awarded by Shado.
It was an amazing performance but unfortunately we can’t reveal any details about who it was awarded to, you’ll have to wait for the show to be aired on e.tv in September to see for yourself.
Our favourite act was a tiny couple of 10-year-old Latin dancers, Ciara and Eathan, aka The Paris Kids.
They amazed the judges with their fast and fancy footwork as they performed to Miriam Makeba’s Pata Pata.
Also impressive was bellydancer Mish Hendricks who showed the judges why her hips don’t lie. And the judges, especially the guys, were suitably impressed with Mish’s snakelike movements.
Cape Town singer Tony thrilled everyone with his rendition of Alicia Keys’ If I Ain’t Got You, hitting the high notes with ease.
DJ Fresh complimented Tony .
“You took that song and made it your own, you didn’t copy the original artist and that’s what we look for in this competition,” he praised.
