NIKS AWARDS VIR: Babes Wodumo

The kwaito star - whose real name is Bongekile Simelane - vented on Twitter after she failed to win a single SAMA at Sun City at the weekend.

The SA Music Awards are rigged.

That’s what Babes Wodumo reportedly claims. And she’s sticking with it.

She feels she deserved a Sama for the hit Wololo; which has nearly six million views on YouTube.

“You all saw what happened at the Samas, just the repeat of what happened at the Metros. It’s obvious that awards are bought,” Simelane said.

Fellow kwaito star Mampintsha rushed to her defence, saying the industry is undermining her.

Her fans are equally bedonderd on Twitter, with one saying it is “”not fair” that she won niks at the Samas.

Another questioned how it was possible she didn’t win.

“I mean Wololo was literally the most played house song last year,” tweeted @quency_mbonani.

Another said Babes was “robbed” a second time.

@AmBlujay said: “Honestly speaking Babes was robbed from Metros; now this,” adding: “Babes WeDumo must quit music and concentrate on dating Mapintsha. (sic)”

After the show Simelane vented on social media about not having won any awards. She said she “refuses to believe” her song can be played and trend as it did but not receive any award.

She says she is recognised by international brands such as BET, but failing to win even an award in SA is bizarre.

“These awards are sold. Continue buying the awards. But it’s fine, we won’t starve. I will always be Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha will remain Mampintsha,” she said.

Anti-Samas rapper Cassper Nyovest said: “This is painful to watch. Aye man, This is why I stay away from the SAMAs. I know this feeling. It’s heavy! Very very heavy!”
