The daughter of an alleged gang boss is said to be at the centre of the latest flare-up of gang violence in Manenberg.
It’s alleged “more than six” people have been shot in the area since Sunday during the latest war between the Jesters and Bad Boys gang.
But police could only officially confirm two incidents, the murder of a 16-year-old boy and 33-year-old man.
A police source says Sunday’s shooting caused the latest flare-up, adding “it is about a girl”.
According to information the dead teen, the son of the Jesters’ leader, was involved with the daughter of the Ghettos leader.
“It is not clear if something happened between them that caused the shooting,” says the source.
“There is only one road that separates the two gangs from each other.”
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirms that in the latest incident, a man was shot in Red River Road but says no criminal case was opened.
“No injuries were reported and no criminal case has been reported at this stage,” she says.
