STABBED TO DEATH: Zingisa Mandondo, 16, as a child

Teen stabbed for resisting young thugs during a robbery.

Three teenagers have been arrested the murder of a Grade 8 learner.

Zingisa Mandondo, 16, was stabbed to death near his Nuwe Begin home in Mfuleni on Sunday night around 9pm after a group of teens tried to rob him of his beanie.

His mother Vuyiswa Mandondo, 49, says she was called at work by relatives who informed her that her son was “already dead and his body cold”.

“When I got there I felt like my whole life was over and I was shattered,” she says.

“From what I understand he was walking there with friends and these three boys approached him and tried to grab the K-Way beanie on his head and when he resisted, that same boy took out a knife and stabbed him.

“One of the friends tried to intervene but they were threatened with the knife and they ran home. My son is lying dead in the morgue over a beanie.

“He was such a kind, gentle and quiet child. He had very big dreams, he wanted to be a pilot when he grew up, so losing him in such a way is very hard for us.”

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana says: “Police have arrested three teenagers between aged 15 and 17 years old in connection with a stabbing that took place in Bardale Informal Settlement on [Sunday] at 9.15pm.”

The suspects appeared at Blue Downs Court on Tuesday on charges of murder.
