A man appeared in court yesterday in connection with allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and leaving the unconscious woman in bushes at the side of the road.
According to Worcester SAPS spokesperson Lindikhaya Mkhontwana, the 24-year-old suspect, Godwin Capes, was arrested on Sunday after being linked to the incident that occurred in Hex Park, Worcester, last week.
“It is alleged that the 20-year-old victim who is reported to be four months pregnant was taken with a vehicle to bushes by her child’s father and was left there,” says Mkhontwana.
“Suddenly two male persons came and dragged her from the car to the bushes where they assaulted her until she was unconscious.”
According to sources who know the victim, she woke up and managed to crawl to a house to call for help.
“They beat her so badly that her whole face is swollen and she was also stabbed,” says the source.
The victim and her family refused to speak to the media.
Meanwhile, Capes appeared in Worcester Magistrates’ Court yesterday on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping.
He will remain behind bars until his bail application tomorrow. Two other suspects are still at large.
