The man whose slashed body was found at a Mitchells Plain beach has been identified as a father who was reported kidnapped.
According to police, Jerome Adonis, 30, who has a three-year-old son, had been sitting outside a shebeen near his girlfriend’s home in Albacore Street, Rocklands, on Sunday night when men in a maroon VW Jetta pulled up, dragged him into the car and drove off with him.
A case of kidnapping was opened after the incident was caught on security cameras outside the shebeen.
On Monday morning just after 6am, a passerby found Jerome’s bloodied body in the sand dunes along Mnandi Beach in Rocklands.
Jerome was lying on his side, dressed in a tracksuit top and pants with his shoes missing. He had several stab wounds to his head.
Yesterday, a family friend who lives with Jerome and who asked not to be identified, said Jerome was from Lavender Hill but had been sleeping over a lot at his girlfriend’s home.
“Jerome was sitting outside the shebeen which is around the corner from the house,” the friend explains.
“A car, a maroon Jetta, stopped next to him and he was pulled inside. t was caught on camera. The footage showed how they drove off with him.
“We thought it was a prank because Jerome isn’t a gangster.
“A case was made by the people of the shebeen.”
They were all shocked when police came to the house on Monday to say Jerome had been found.
“They asked the girlfriend a lot of questions and said it was him,” the man says.
“We didn’t think this would happen to him because he wasn’t a gangster and we don’t know why someone would do this.”
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk confirms the man was identified and his family notified.
A case of kidnapping and murder has been opened for investigation.
