Now that President Jacob Zuma has paid back the money, “KFC” thinks he deserves a free meal.
On Monday @KFCRSA tweeted: “Dear Mr President. Thank you for paying your debt, as KFC we would like you to come to our outlets and have free meal. #paidbackthemoney”
The tweet came hours after Zuma took out a bond to raise the R7.8 million to pay for the non-security upgrades to his Nkandla home.
Unfortunately for the Prez, the KFC twitter account isn’t the real deal and he won’t be getting that free Streetwise 2 with pap on the side for mahala after all.
But mense loved the idea so much that the parody account @KFCRSA was still trending in South Africa yesterday.
@LegendMzankomo tweeted: “@KFCRSA Can I also get a free meal I’m of the people that convinced the Honourable President Zuma to pay back the money #paidbackthemoney”
While @ketsi_teli wondered why KFC was trying to copy Nando’s, known for their gatmaak campaigns: “@KFCRSA LOL! why you biting Nandos?”
But the real KFC’s funny bone was not tickled.
Mike Middleton, Chief Marketing Officer at KFC Africa said they had no affiliation to the parody account and were trying to shut it down.
