Ajax Cape Town’s youth system showed just how brilliant it is by winning the inaugural NextGen tournament in Amsterdam.
Their U19 side ended top of the pile of a competition featuring the likes of Ajax Amsterdam, PSV Eindhoven, Galatasaray and Barcelona.
The young Urban Warriors won their group, topping PSV and Gala, before beating Ecuadorian side ASA United in the semifinal and Tottenham 2-0 in Monday’s final.
Vladislav Heric’s side featured first-teamer Jody February and promoted Scarra Phohlongo.
In the final, Spurs pushed hard from the first whistle as they sought revenge for the defeat our boys dealt them in the group stages, but February and his defence were once again up for the challenge.
The second half produced some great interplay by the Cape boys, moving the ball up the park quickly.
A quick counterattack left Leo Thetani one-on-one with the Spurs goalkeeper, and he made no mistake as he calmly lobbed the ball into the back of the net.
Another counterattack just a few minutes later saw Thetani in front of goal once again, the winger produced another great lob to get his second of the match.
