A Cape Flats neighbourhood is shocked at the discovery of the body of a young woman whose genitals had been mutilated.
At 5.30am yesterday, residents rushed out to the horrific scene on the field along Tuna Road in Nooitgedacht.
The body of Lekita Moore, 19, was found in a blood bath.
She was stabbed several times in the throat and stomach.
One of her nipples and a part of her crotch area had been cut away.
According to witnesses on the scene it had looked like the young woman’s legs were broken as a result of rape.
The motive for the sickening attack is unclear and no arrests have been made yet.
The horrific scene shocked Lekita’s dad Charl Moore who was called to identify his daughter.
“Dit was ‘n skok vir my. Ek was by die werk toe my vriend my phone om vir my tê sê, my kind le vermoor op die veld,” Charl explains emotionally.
He described Lekita, the youngest of three daughters, as the apple of his eye, gentle young woman who loved kids.
Charl says Lekita was en route to Valhalla Park Civic Centre for a karaoke evening that took place once a month.
Shocked Nooitgedacht residents couldn’t believe that such a gruesome crime had taken place on their doorstep.
Many blamed a gaping hole in the fence that borders the veldjie as an easy entrance and exit point for criminals.
An angry resident says: “ Alles gebeur hier deur, nou kyk nou waar het die ding gebeur, by die gat, as die council net hulle werk gedoen het, so die nie gebeur nie.”
Police spokeswoman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana has asked residents to help cops find Lekita’s killers.
She says: “We can confirm, that a body of a 19-year-old female was found Sunday morning at Tuna road, Valhalla Park, with multiple stab wounds. No one has been arrested at this stage.”
“The Bishop Lavis SAPS are appealing to the community, for anyone with information that can assist with the investigation to contact them on 021 935 9803,” she adds.
