Champions League keeps Lloris at club.

With the Champions League draw taking place at 7pm tonight, Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris admits that if it wasn’t for this tournament he would have left the club.

Spurs will join Leicester City, Arsenal and possibly Manchester City as the Premier League’s representatives in the competition.

City played in their final qualification match against Steaua Bucharest last night after taking a 5-0 lead in the first leg.

Spurs’ Lloris, though, says: “There have been rumours of my departure for many summers.

“From the moment we reached our goal [the Champions League], in spring, my mind was made up.

“I’ve never asked myself the question. I knew I would stay.

“I am in a project which started really with [coach Mauricio] Pochettino.

“The first two seasons, yes, it didn’t happen as I wished collectively, but the challenges have helped me make my way.

“They saw that they could count on me.

“It [the Champions League] is an indescribable competition.

“This is where you have to be, and where you want to be.”

Lloris is facing a race against time to be fit for the Champions League opener as he is currently nursing a hamstring injury.
