The man who was arrested for raping a gans in Gansbaai was declared voëlvry after being released from police custody.
Meanwhile, his alleged feathered victim was spotted in the streets of Masakhane, a short distance from where the 21-year-old man was allegedly caught with his pants down, trying to have his way with the goose nearly two weeks ago.
The suspect was arrested, but released the next day without appearing in court.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed that charges were withdrawn.
“A man was arrested on a charge of bestiality but after perusing the docket, the prosecutor decided not to enrol the matter and the accused was released due to a lack of evidence,” he explains.
The owner of the goose couldn’t care less that the alleged rapist is free.
“I don’t work so I don’t have money to go to court every time,” says the 52-year-old, who asked not to be identified.
On July 28, neighbours called her and said a man was trying to rape her white goose.
Witness Lindeka Thwala, 41, claims she saw the man lying on his back with his pants down while holding the goose over his penis.
“He said he was going to n*** die gans and then he is going to kill it,” recalls Lindeka.
The owner says she wants nothing to do with the violated goose.
“That goose lay here for two days, unable to walk. I just want that man to fetch this gans and give me money to buy a new one,” she insists.
