The first to be nabbed was a 22-year-old man on Tuesday after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Members of the Nyanga Crime Prevention Unit were patrolling Mlukwana Street when they noticed three men acting suspiciously.
After a search, police found one with the gun and ammunition.
The Zwelitsha resident appeared at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The second suspect was nabbed in the early hours of yesterday morning in Browns Farm.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana says: “Police followed information about an unlicensed firearm and while they were knocking at the suspect’s house, shots were fired at them from inside the house, police retaliated but no one was injured.”
Two other people were also arrested after they were found in the illegal possession of a police uniform.
