LOOK OUT: US Embassy warned of ISIS terror in SA.

SA malls on high alert after terrorist attack threats.

Mense in Mitchells Plain have been reassured that steps are being taken to keep them safe from ISIS terrorists.

This weekend the US Embassy published a warning of possible terror attacks on Americans in South Africa as the Muslim holy month of Ramadaan commences.

The Americans said “upscale shopping malls” and tourist hot spots in Cape Town and Joburg could be targeted after the Islamic State of Iraq (Isis) sent out a global call to its followers to carry out terror attacks in the pwasa.

Yesterday, the British and Australian governments both updated their travel advisories for citizens travelling to South Africa in response to the terror alert issued by the United States.

However, State Security Minister David Mahlobo, rubbished the claims and said there was no need to panic: “We remain a strong and stable democratic country and there is no immediate danger posed by the alert.”

The department’s spokesperson Brian Fikani Dube added that the terror alert was regarded as a “standard precautionary communication”.

“The security services of the country have liaised with the Americans on the concerns they have and these engagements will continue as part of the ongoing work,” said Dube.

Yesterday the management of Liberty Promenade in Mitchells Plain reassured mense they were aware of the terror alert.

Liberty Promenade posted on Facebook: “All five shopping centres in the Liberty Property Portfolio – Sandton City, Nelson Mandela Square, Eastgate, Liberty Midlands Mall and Liberty Promenade – are on high alert and additional security measures have been implemented in line with the Liberty Group policy. We are also working closely with SAPS.”
