Bafana Bafana don’t skrik for Senegal’s big names ahead of their crunch World Cup qualifier this Saturday (3pm).
The showdown in Polokwane will see the likes of Sadio Mane, Idrissa Gana Gueye, Mohamed Diame, Cheikhou Kouyate and Kalidou Koulibaly taking on Shakes Mashaba’s manne.
But Shakes is min gespin.
In eight matches between the two nations, SA have won two, lost two and drawn four.
But they have only played to draws in competitive games.
And after guiding his side to a 1-0 win over the west Africans in an international friendly last year, Shakes is confident his team will not be overwhelmed by Africa’s second-ranked side.
SA have to win to stop the Group D leaders, on three points, from getting away after Bafana could only draw their opener against Burkina Faso.
Shakes says: “We might not have dominated them but they haven’t dominated us either.
“I think on our day, we have what it takes to beat the best sides in the world and Senegal included.”
He reiterated that Mamelodi Sundowns’ triumph in Africa had brought in some positives vibes among the players.
Shakes says: “We know what happened when Orlando Pirates won the Champions League in 1995 and the subsequent year Bafana Bafana lifted the Africa Cup of Nations. The spin offs are always positive.”
