‘Family dispute’ leaves teen in a coma

VICIOUS: Girl, 16, beaten by a boy, 17, with a baseball bat

The 16-year-old was allegedly beaten with a baseball bat.

A 16-year-old girl is in a coma after she was beaten up with a baseball bat, allegedly by a 17-year-old boy during a family feud in Lentegeur.

The girl was walking in Blombos Street when the boy allegedly hit her repeatedly in the face in front of witnesses.

The girl’s family, who refused to be identified, said she’s in a critical condition at the Mitchells Plain General Hospital.

One relative says: “We went to the police but they said they have to speak to her themselves.”

On Monday, pictures of the attack were circulated on WhatsApp.

According to witnesses, the meisie and her aunt started the fight by attacking the boy and three female relatives.

A neighbour says the girl’s father is a gangster, who was recently picked up by cops after he allegedly violated his parole conditions. He is serving a three-year jail term for illegal possession of a firearm.

The woman says the man was allegedly not living at the address he gave to his parole officers.

The girl believed the 17-year-old’s father had piemped her dad to police.

“They went up this road in a fury and attacked him, hitting and kicking him,” says the 45-year-old woman.

The boy’s mother, aunt and two cousins came to attack the girl, but lost that fight.

Later when the girl went to the shop, the boy allegedly attacked her.

Police spokeswoman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said: “Kindly be advised this office has no record of the incident referred to.”
