Face to face with my father’s ‘killers’

SHOT DEAD: Mitchells Plain pub owner Calvin Kabollie Goliath died in May

Mitchells Plain pub owner's 'killers' in court for bail applications.

The son of a murdered Mitchells Plain pub owner yesterday came face to face with his father’s alleged killers for the first time.

This as Donald Conrad and Dane Brandt appeared at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court.

The pair allegedly confessed to killing beloved pub owner, Calvin “Kabollie” Goliath, 65, on the morning of May 19.

Calvin, who was the owner of Premium Sports Bar and Dagbreek Liquors in Westridge, was shot and killed outside his business, while sitting in his car.

Conrad was arrested after community members pointed him out, while Brandt handed himself in.

Police sources said one of the suspects could be linked to the murder through damning forensic evidence found in the car.

Yesterday the duo stood silently in a packed courtroom where their bail application was meant to kick off.

However, their lawyer requested to see the case docket to have a look at one of the accused’s confession.

Magistrate Walter Golding postponed the matter to tomorrow for a bail application.

Outside court, Calvin’s relatives were shocked at the postponement.

It was the first time many of them, including his son, William Goliath, attended the court case.

The family did not want to comment, with one woman saying: “I think it is too soon for us to talk about forgiveness. We are all still feeling a lot of things.”
