A 28-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death during an early morning argument

A man who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death in front of her children will be appearing in court today.

The 26-year-old man is expected to face a charge of murder at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court.

Police were called to the Atlas Street murder scene in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, at 1am on Wednesday.

It is believed the murder took place just after 11pm on Tuesday.

Cops explain the woman, Rushni Stevens, 28, and her ex-boyfriend were engaged in an argument when he allegedly stabbed her in the neck in front of her children.

The suspect then fled the scene and was later arrested by police.

Yesterday, Rushni’s family would not comment on the incident.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel André Traut explains: “Police attended a murder scene where a woman had been stabbed in Atlas Street, Tafelsig.

“It is alleged the victim, a 28-year-old female, had been involved in an argument with her ex-boyfriend.

“The suspect, a 26-year-old male, had stabbed the victim in the neck.

“The incident allegedly happened in front of the children.

“The suspect fled the scene and was later apprehended by police and arrested.

“The suspect faces a charge of murder and will appear in court on Friday.”
