The mother of a newborn baby found on a dumping site is said to be recovering in hospital after complications after the birth.
According to a source, the baby boy’s mother gave herself over to cops after the infant’s body was found at a vullishoop in Caledon on Thursday.
“She’s in hospital at the moment,” says the source.
Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk confirms the incident and says no arrests have been made yet.
“On Thursday at about 11am, Caledon SAPS members attended a complaint at Theewaterskloof dumping site and on their arrival found the body of a newborn baby boy wrapped in a towel inside a plastic bag,” says Van Wyk.
A post-mortem will be done to determine the cause of death.
