‘Drug dealer’ nabbed after tip-off

BUST: Tip-off leads to drug dealer's arrest.

An alleged 20-year-old drug mert was arrested thanks to a community tip-off.

Cops have removed a suspected drug dealer off the streets after being tipped off by his own community.

Police say the 20-year-old merchant is known to sell drugs on the street corners in Hanover Park.

On Tuesday, cops found him standing along Lynith Walk and searched him.

They allegedly found him to be in possession of ungah (heroin) and an undisclosed amount of money.

Cops say the man fit the detailed description community members gave, even down to his clothing.

Lieutenant Lance Goliath says the arrests mark the restoration of trust between police and the community.

He says: “At about 3.25pm on Tuesday, members proceeded to Lynith Walk, Hanover Park where they spotted a male fitting the description given by the community.

“The suspect was searched and ungah and an undisclosed amount of money was confiscated from him.

“He was arrested for the illegal possession of drugs.”

The suspect was due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court yesterday on a charge of illegal possession of drugs.

Philippi Station Commander Colonel Dennis Abels salutes the community for their involvement in combating crime.
