A six-year-old boy was shot and wounded, and an alleged merchant killed in a drive-by shooting.

The 40-year-old man was murdered outside a house in Elsies River on Sunday night while the child, who was playing inside a nearby taxi, was also hit.

Police sources tell the Daily Voice the man is a known drug dealer in the area.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says the boy suffered a flesh wound to the back of his neck.

Van Wyk says: “At about 6pm a shooting incident occurred where a 40-year-old male was fatally wounded.

“In the same incident, a child was also shot while playing in a taxi that was parked in a yard nearby.

“The boy received medical treatment for a scratch wound at the back of his neck.”

Van Wyk says the unknown gunmen were still at large.

“No arrest has been made. A murder and attempted murder case was opened,” Van Wyk adds.
