A school taxi driver has been charged with the rape of an eight-year-old girl he transports.
Sidney Amos, 47, appeared in the Muizenberg Court on Thursday.
It’s alleged the Seawinds father of two, who drives primary school children, has been raping his victim since February.
The Grade 2 girl’s mother, 36, who cannot be identified to protect her child’s identity, says she found out on Tuesday.
“I feel like I have been paying this man to rape my child,” says the angry woman.
“I asked my daughter what he [Amos] is doing, she said ‘he is raping me’.”
The girl’s nine-year-old friend blew the whistle after the two of them went to Amos’ house earlier that day.
“He told my daughter to come to him for something nice and she took her friend along,” the mother explains.
“They were in his room when he told [the friend] to touch and kiss him.
“When she didn’t want to, he gave her a R4 to keep quiet, then [the friend] walked out of the room.
“Later my daughter told [her friend] ‘me and Uncle Sidney made old fashion again’.
“This wasn’t the first time my daughter said this to [her friend] so when she saw my [12-year old] son, she told him what happened,” the woman says.
Doctors confirm the girl was raped, and found semen in her.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirms the arrest.
