City win first PSL game, next is Chiefs in MTN8.

It was the stuff of dreams when Cape Town City won their first PSL match at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday night.

Coach Eric Tinkler couldn’t have been a happier man after strikes from Bongolethu Jayiya and Aubrey Ngoma gave them a 2-0 win over Polokwane City.

Tinkler told eNCA: “I felt in the first half that we would get that opportunity and fortunately enough, we got it just before half time and it is a good time to score.

“That builds the morale and builds the confidence and it obviously works the opposite for the opposition.”-

Tinkler believes captain Lebogang Manyama, who played off the bench, gave them some direction.

Of Manyama, he says: “He gave us a little stability when we needed it, just that little creativity that gave us that second wind.”

At Milpark in Johannesburg, Gavin Hunt’s Wits proved that they will again be genuine contenders for the Premiership title by beating Kaizer Chiefs 2-1.

Elias Pelembe delivered a powerful header past Itumeleng Khune in the 34th minute, and half an hour later, Thulani Hlatshwayo made it 2-0 with a similar effort.

Lorenzo Gordinho pulled one back for Amakhosi in the 82nd minute.

Tinkler’s men will return to the scene of their debut win when they face Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 tomorrow night (8pm).

Of that clash, Tinkler says: “I definitely go into that game without any butterflies. Playing against Chiefs is the game you worry about the least because you know what’s going to pitch up from your players on the day.”

Ajax Cape Town started their season with an away draw against Baroka FC, with Nathan Paulse scoring the opener from the spot before Richard Matloga equalised for the hosts in the 52nd minute.
