Pitso Mosimane believes his Mamelodi Sundowns’ 2-1 Champions League victory over Nigerian giants Enyimba is good news for South African football.

And he has told his players that they have nothing to fear in the rest of the competition.

The Brazilians have already had AS Vita and ES Setif, the Algerian side they beat 2-0 two weeks ago, cleared from their way – due to disqualification.

And now they are doing it for themselves, with Leonardo Castro and Wayne Arendse scoring the goals that downed the two-time champions.

Bra Jingles says: “The Champions League, for our country, means to take away the phobia of facing an Enyimba with the two stars on top of the badge. Setif had stars on their badge also and we won.

“Being patriotic, as a South African, it’s always good to beat a Nigerian team because there is always that talk about Bafana Bafana and the Super Eagles [Nigeria national team] and that South African teams are not being able to beat Nigerian teams.

“So that talk must stop.”

Sundowns next take on Egyptian five-time champions Zamalek on July 17 in Cairo.

And Pitso adds: “We are going now to the Egyptians [Zamalek] and if we can get our concentration right like we did in Setif, we can win.”
