Domestic workers due for an increase
Small salary hike on the cards for household help.

The Labour Department has some good news for domestic employees.

Minimum wages for domestic workers would increase next month, the Labour Department said on Monday.

Depending on the municipality, employees working more than 27 ordinary hours a week must earn R2 205.17 or R2 422.54  a month.

Last year domestic workers earned between R1 993.82 and R2 230.70 a month.

Domestic workers include housekeepers, gardeners, nannies, domestic drivers among others.

The department also announced that the minimum wages for cleaning employees would be R19.38 or R16.41 an hour, depending where they worked.
