Two people were shot dead in Mitchells Plain in less than two hours in suspected gang-related attacks.
Around 8.30pm on Wednesday night, a 22-year-old man was killed in Heinkel Road in Rocklands.
The man died a short distance from his home when he was hit in a drive-by shooting.
Captain Frederick van Wyk says the suspects opened fire from an Opel Corsa bakkie.
“Mitchells Plain police attended to a murder complaint at Heinkel Street, Rocklands, Mitchells Plain (where) they found the victim’s body on the ground with several bullet wounds to it,” he says.
“It is alleged that a Opel Corsa LDV pulled up near the victim and shot several times, fatally wounding him. A murder case was opened for investigation,” Van Wyk says.
At 9.45 in Atletiek Street, Beacon Valley, a 19-year-old was shot dead after his attackers also fired shots at him from inside a car. Van Wyk says the teen died at the scene.
“The same evening police attended a murder at Atletiek Street, Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, and on their arrival found the victim’s body on the ground with bullet wounds to the body.
“It is alleged that a Toyota Tazz pulled up next to the victim and shot towards him.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this stage. A murder case was opened for investigation,” Van Wyk says.
