De Sa: Time for Ajax kids to toughen up

AJAX Cape Town coach Roger de Sa says his team needs “to become men”.

The Urban Warriors are on a four-match winless streak and following his team’s 2-1 loss to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday, the boss snapped.

He says: “Defensively, we have a natural tendency to always back off and that hurts us.

“As soon as teams become a little bit physical and the officials allow it, we battle.

“We start to get on the back foot.

“That’s one of the things we’ve got to look at, we need to become men and take that confrontation head-on.”

The coach points out that without targetmen Nathan Paulse and Prince Nxumalo up front, Ajax are battling to recycle the ball in the danger areas.

He adds: “We needed the metal which those two give us out there. We lacked it against Free State Stars.”

Meanwhile, Ajax’s postponed 28 October 2015 clash with Platinum Stars has now been confirmed to be played in Mafikeng on Sunday.
