The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) on Monday, confirmed that it was investigating the alleged rape a 20-year-old woman at Laingsburg police station..
National Spokesman Moses Dlamini said the alleged incident occurred on Friday night.
“It is alleged that the victim was arrested for theft and detained alone in Laingsburg police cells. While she was still in the police cells an African police official entered and went straight to her, he grabbed, kissed and undressed her and there was a struggle,” Dlamini said.
He said the firearm of the police official fell to the ground during the struggle and the police official grabbed his firearm and pointed it at the woman and told her keep quiet and threatened to shoot her if she cried.
“The police official allegedly raped the victim in the police holding cells,” said Dlamini.
The woman opened a case of rape on Saturday, and IPID took over the investigation. Dlamini said the police would hold an identity parade to identify the suspect.
“No arrest has been made. The investigation continues,” said Dlamini.
