A police officer and his friend were nabbed after being caught driving in a stolen vehicle and being in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Thobela Ncanda, 28, who is a police orderly at the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court, and his unknown friend made their first appearance at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Both were released on R2000 bail.
Cops say Ncanda’s friend had been speeding and jumped a red robot along Stock Road in Philippi-East on Saturday just after 11pm. Ncanda was the passenger.
Cops also found both men in possession of a police-issue Z88 firearm and (12) 9mm ammunition and (one) 7.65 mm ammunition in the chamber.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut explains: “Police spotted a black Mazda 2 with Registration CA 202-769 with two male occupants driving reckless over red traffic lights.
“Police pulled the vehicle off in Stock Road for a search. Both were arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen vehicle and police firearms and ammunition.”
