The Cape Town Comedy Club is not a joke — and has the international numbers to back it up.
Comedian Kurt Schoonraad’s club has just been listed in the Top 10 Best Comedy Clubs in the world.
The list is compiled by acclaimed comedy critic Tim Richards and published on an Australian website called TheTraveller.com.au.
Kurt says he’s chuffed his club nabbed the number nine spot.
“We didn’t even know when he came to review us. It was done in secret so I can’t even tell you what night he was here,” Kurt tells Daily Voice.
In the review, Richards says: “This South African comedy outfit has an enviable venue, housed within a historic pumphouse on the city’s Waterfront.”
“With a portfolio of comedians drawn from the nation’s diverse communities, along with visiting international performers, it’s a great place to get a distinctly African slant on what makes us laugh.”
This month the Comedy Club is celebrating its third birthday, and has even featured in a movie so far.
Last year actor Siv Ngesi was pranked at the Comedy Club by master prankster Leon Schuster for his film, Pay Back The Money.
Kurt says he hopes international tourists take note of the review so they can “realise we have a great comedy venue here in the Mother City”.
