Allister Coetzee insists the Springbok badge “will never lose its aura”.
Coetzee’s Bokke have lost five of their nine Tests since he took charge of the side at the start of the year.
And ahead of the outgoing tour, where they will face England, Italy and Wales this month, Toetie says the Boks will be a challenge for any team.
He tells the English press: “The Springbok will never lose its aura. Definitely not.
“It might lose a couple of Test matches but if you look at where the Welsh team are today and they lost 10 Test matches in a row (in 2002-03). They never lost their aura.
“Even if you look at England for where they have been and where they are now. We need to be patient. It was a tough year for us.
“In the past six months we have learnt some hard lessons and I think it is a great opportunity coming out to play England at Twickenham, the No.2 team in the world. It is a great opportunity for us to measure ourselves. We have got a good record here.”
Coincidentally, the last time England beat South Africa was in 2006, their best result in the last decade a 14-all draw in Port
Elizabeth four years ago.
The Boks kick off their tour against the Barbarians on
Saturday at Wembley (3pm).
