Cobras struggling to build an innings

SOLID: Stiaan van Zyl

Cape squad just can't get it together on the pitch.

The Cape Cobras are in serious trouble again in their Sunfoil Series clash against the Knights.

Coach Paul Adams’ batsmen failed again on yesterday’s Day Two, falling to 241 all out in their pursuit of their hosts’ first-innings total of 342.

The Knights are now in the driving seat on 69/3 with a lead of 170.

Earlier the Cobras resumed on 22/0, but skipper Omphile Ramela didn’t stick around for long and were four wickets down before they could reach 100.

Coming together at 96/4, Proteas pair Stiaan van Zyl and Dane Vilas steadied the ship somewhat.

Vilas faced 45 deliveries for his 10 runs as he and Van Zyl lifted them to 136/5.

And then the top-order leftie joined forces with Aviwe Mgijima to take the score to 219/6 with his solid 83.

Mgijima carried on to help his side to 238/8 with his patient 50 before the tail was swept away.

Dane Paterson (2) and Beuran Hendricks once again struck early as the Cobras looked to get themselves back in the game with two days to play.
