Dalin Oliver is a skrik vir niks comedian and so he was a natural choice for your favourite koerant’s first ever comedy show.
The Good Hope FM sports jock will be sharing the stage with MC Kurt Schoonraad, Shimmy Isaacs, Carl Weber and Lungelo Ndlovu at the Daily Voice’s Joke in the Box show, to be held on August 2 at City Hall.
It’s a Tuesday night, but don’t worry because Wednesday, August 3, is a public holiday for the municipal elections.
Dalin, 27, from Retreat, is a moerse fan of the Daily Voice.
“I always watch people’s expressions when they read the funny stories in the Daily Voice and the headlines and if we can translate that onto stage it would be great,” he says.
The former Wynberg Boys High School teacher has taken those funny classroom moments onto the stage before and had a sold-out run with his show I Came, I Taught, I Left at the Baxter Theatre in February.
“Following that I took the show to the Opera House in PE and then to Paarl as well,” says Dalin.
“But there is nothing like that audience here at home, in the Cape.
“When I was in Johannesburg I told a joke about see-till-seet [hide and seek] and they didn’t really use that word. But it was cool because you adapt to an audience.”
While he’s preparing for Joke in the Box, Dalin is hard at work putting the finishing touches on his comedy show DVD.
“It was filmed at the Baxter, from the last run of I Came, I Taught, I Left, and it will be out there soon,” he says.
He’s also busy writing a new comedy show that he hopes will debut in Cape Town early next year, and then tour the country with performances at the Grahamstown Arts Festival 2017.
