Cape Town City went top of the PSL when they beat Chippa United in Port Elizabeth.
Goals from skipper Lebogang Manyama and Judas Moseamedi were too good for the Chilli Boys’ Katlego Mashego penalty.
And the three points took them to the top of the league until Wits won their game at Platinum Stars later on Saturday.
Eric Tinkler’s manne came out firing from kickoff as they continued their great start to the season.
They put the home side under some intense pressure in the early stages of the game and Chippa’s Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi pulled off a brilliant double save to ensure that City didn’t take an early lead.
In the 18th minute, Chippa defender James Okwuosa fouled City midfielder Ronald Putsche in the box and the visitors were awarded a penalty.
Manyama stepped up to beat shot- stopper Akpeyi from 12 yards to make it 1-0 to the visitors.
With his side trailing, Chippa head coach Dan Malesela decided to introduce Sandile Zuke for Sizwe Mdlinzo in the 34th minute.
Nevertheless, the Cape Town side were leading 1-0 at halftime thanks to Manyama’s 19th-minute goal — his fourth league goal of the season.
Akpeyi was called into action nine minutes into the second half when he parried away Aubrey Ngoma’s shot as City looked to double their lead.
In the 65th minute, Chippa were awarded a free-kick in a promising area and Katlego Mashego placed his effort from the set-piece over the crossbar.
Second-half substitute Moseamedi doubled City’s lead eight minutes later when he beat Akpeyi with a good right-footed shot.
The home side were awarded a late penalty in the 83rd minute and Mashego grabbed a consolation goal for Chippa.
