Gerard Pique says with Pep Guardiola at the helm, the sky is the limit for Manchester City.
That’s how highly the Barcelona defender rates his former coach ahead of the mouthwatering Champions League clash between the two clubs at the Nou Camp tonight (8.45pm).
The Catalans may enjoy four wins from their four meetings in the tournament to date, but Pique is wary of Pep’s City.
And he claims that City are already playing like Barcelona.
The 29-year-old defender says: “Manchester City are a different team from last year and all the years they came here with [Manuel] Pellegrini.
“Their style of play is different, they pressure a lot, very high, they try to have the ball and create chances.
“I think they play more or less the same style as us. Pep Guardiola was here a lot of years.”
Asked just how massive Guardiola’s impact on the Barca players was after leading the Blaugrana to the title in 2009 and 2011, Pique says the former playmaker “changed the history of the club”.
The 2010 World Cup winner says: “Guardiola had an effect on us all. There was a before and an after. He changed the history of this club.”
But Barca have their biggest weapon back — Lionel Messi.
The five-times Ballon d’Or winner has been a constant menace to City in past meetings and his goalscoring return to fitness at the weekend means he is likely to be so again.
