JZ appeals to #FeesMustFall protesters to respect cops and the Constitution.

President Jacob Zuma has called for calm and restraint at varsities after days of violent protests.

“We urge the students to exercise this right in a responsible manner… respect law enforcement officers [and] the rights of others who are not taking part in the protests,” the president said in a statement yesterday.

He also “directed” riot police to act “strictly within the confines of the law and the Constitution” and extended his condolences to the family of Celumusa Ntuli‚ the Wits University worker who died after he inhaled fumes from a fire extinguisher during student protests.
