The 25-year-old woman accused of burying a foetus was released on R800 bail.

The Cape Flats mom who allegedly buried her aborted baby in a porridge box in her yard has been released on bail of R800.

Lee-Ann Roosa, 25, from Silvertown, appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court yesterday on a charge of concealment of birth.

She was allegedly five months pregnant when she aborted her baby at home two weeks ago.

Police dug up the foetus on Monday after receiving a tip-off.

Roosa appeared agitated in the dock, informing Magistrate Keith Le Keur that she would be representing herself.

Prosecutor Bongani Ndwayana said they are still awaiting a post-mortem report.

“It is believed she took medication to bring about labour. The baby girl was buried under a tree in her parents’ backyard. We are not opposing bail and suggest R1 000.”

Bail was set at R800.

The matter was postponed to December 5 for further investigation.
