BACK FOR THE BOKS: Flyhalf Morne Steyn.

Coetzee opts for tried and tested No.10 Steyn.

The Springboks needed a quick fix to their flyhalf woes and have called on Morné Steyn to lighten their load.

With Pat Lambie ruled out of the second Test against Ireland at Ellis Park this weekend after suffering a concussion in the 26-20 defeat at Newlands, coach Allister Coetzee decided not to risk playing rookie Garth April and will instead use the experienced head of Steyn to help get them back to winning ways.

It is not expected, however, that Steyn will start the match, with Elton Jantjies almost certain to wear the No.10 jumper this weekend.

Explaining his decision to rope in the 60-Test veteran, Coetzee says: “I made it clear we would definitely consider Morne [Steyn] as a replacement option because of his vast experience, and I would therefore not hesitate to draft him into the match-day squad.

“Garth April is still a talented young man and was selected to learn and to develop. It is his first year in Super Rugby and his involvement with the squad will benefit him in the long run.

“Pat [Lambie] will return home for this week and we want to wish him well with his recovery.”
