Springbok hopeful Roelof Smit will miss the remainder of their UK tour due to a torn chest muscle
suffered in training on Monday.
The Blue Bulls flanker was the only natural fetcher in the squad and impressed in the 31-all draw with the Barbarians on Saturday, scoring a try in the match.
Cheetahs flanker Uzair Cassiem will replace Smit in the camp, as he joins injured Jesse Kriel and the unused Cheslin Kolbe on the plane home.
Bok coach Allister Coetzee hints that the they will now have to improvise with the selection of their loosies for Saturday’s important clash at Twickenham against England.
Toetie says: “We are already without the services of several openside flankers who are either injured or not available.
“Francois Louw, Jaco Kriel and Marcell Coetzee are all injured while the likes of Heinrich
Brussow and Schalk Burger are not available.”
The Springboks had their first training session of the week and some of the players did not participate because of various niggles.
Wing Bryan Habana who played for his French club side Toulon on Sunday, has a troublesome knee and he is doubtful for this weekend’s fixture.
Other players who sat out the training session with minor niggles were Pieter-Steph du Toit (lock), Vincent Koch (prop), Willie le Roux (fullback) and JP Pietersen (wing).
