The 52-year-old alleged bigamist and fraudster from Steenberg who recently married his seventh wife, made a brief appearance in the Muizenberg Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Raymond Allies was charged with fraud after he allegedly tried to scam his sixth wife out of her house.
Prosecutors say his co-accused in the matter, Joan Greenfield, 58, fraudulently signed divorce papers, which would have enabled Allies to claim his sixth wife’s house as per divorce order.
However, Mrs Allies learned about his seventh wedding, to her former best friend and neighbour, via WhatsApp on Mother’s Day, and upon investigation found out she had been divorced.
She called in police, who traced the signed divorce papers to Greenfield’s house in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain.
It has since been revealed that Greenfield is a former fiance of Allies, a long distance taxi-driver, but that he dropped her for wife number six.
On Friday, the prosecutor requested a postponement in the matter, as they needed more time to investigate.
The request was granted and the matter was postponed to September 5.
Allies quickly exited the courtroom and tried to assault the Daily Voice photographer for snapping his picture, screaming, “I told you people no pictures of me.”
Outside court, a nervous Greenfield again protested her innocence.
She said: “I did not sign anything. I was involved with him, yes, and a sheriff of the court came around to my house, but the documents were not for me, so I did not sign them.”
