A busy market in Iraq's capital came to an abrupt halt after a bomb attack.

Baghdad – At least 12 people were killed Tuesday in a suicide attack on busy market in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, witnesses and medical sources told dpa.

A suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt blew himself up inside a popular market in the predominantly Shiite New Baghdad neighbourhood, in the east of the capital, also injuring 30 people and inflicting damage on several stores, the sources added.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. But similar assaults were claimed by the Islamic State extremist militia which regards Shiite Muslims as heretics.
