Bafana Bafana centreback Ramahlwe Mphahlele says Shakes Mashaba’s manne are getting into gear for the road to Russia.
The Kaizer Chiefs man says that while South Africa have failed to reach Afcon 2017, they have their sights set on making it to the World Cup the following year.
And against Mauritania, who they were humiliated by last September in their continental qualifiers tonight, they will show start their journey.
Mphahlele says: “This is a very important game for the country.
“Remember we lost to Mauritania 3-1 and we want to reverse the result, and also we are preparing for the World Cup qualifiers so we need to win so that we have the momentum and confidence to tackle the qualifiers.
“We must qualify for Russia. Even though we know we are not playing to qualify for Afcon, this is good preparation for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.”
