Two men who were allegedly trying to rob an ATM by using cloned bank cards were caught red-handed.
The two were nabbed by security guards after they tried their luck at an Absa ATM located at a petrol station in Riebeeck Street in Kraaifontein.
An eyewitness says a gang of four suspects was busy at the ATM when security guards who had been following them caught up with them.
“Two of the suspects were caught at the machine, and two others jumped into a getaway car that was parked nearby and drove off at a moerse speed,” he says.
The two at the ATM were allegedly beaten up by angry residents before police arrived to arrest them.
“Die bloed het gevloei,” the witness says.
Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed that two males aged 23 and 25 were arrested for being in the possession of suspected stolen property.
“The suspects were apprehended by security officers and handed over to SAPS. Suspected cloned cards were found in their possession. The investigation continues.”
