Two suspected poachers are due in court today after they were busted with more than 6 500 perlemoen, a hijacked bakkie and an unlicensed firearm.
The two suspects from Delft, aged 43 and 26, were nabbed by two Stanford cops at about 6pm on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel André Traut says the members were on patrol when they noticed the suspicious Ford LDV.
“The vehicle was stopped and searched, which led to the discovery of 43 bags of abalone and a 9mm firearm with the serial number removed and 17 rounds of ammunition,” he adds.
The bakkie had been hijacked in Muizenberg in October.
“The two suspects are due to make a court appearance in Hermanus on Monday,” says Traut.
