Winless Ajax Cape Town are out to kickstart their PSL campaign against Kaizer Chiefs this weekend.
Going into tomorrow night’s clash in Durban, the Urban Warriors are 13th of the log and they couldn’t have asked for a tougher assignment.
After a poor start to the season for the Amakhosi, Steve Komphela and his manne have turned things around with three wins in a row and are top of the table.
But Ajax boss Roger de Sa feels that, while it’s going to be a battle, his Warriors can take heart from Chiefs’ story.
He says: “It’s always tough to play Chiefs. They’ve found their form. A couple of weeks ago, everyone was talking about Steve and how bad they’re doing.
“And now it’s three wins on the trot and they are top of the log. Everyone knew they would turn the corner.
“So it’s probably a wrong time [to face them], they have just come right.
“For us it’s nice to stay coastal
“And it’s another opportunity to get going.”
De Sa adds that it’s not from a lack of trying and motivation that his team haven’t picked up more than two draws from their four games this season so far.
And he says his manne will be up for the KZN clash against one of the big boys.
He says: “We played well against Pirates. The result wasn’t good. But hopefully we can do the same.
“Last year we had a good record against them – two draws and a cup win.
“It’s still fresh in our minds how we played against them and I know we always raise our game when we play against the so-called bigger clubs.”
He believes that his Warriors are ready to fight for a win and take defeat on the chin.
De Sa says: “You’re either born with it or you’re not.
“But it’s a growing process with these guys. And a lot of them have to step up. Hopefully we improve.
“I think a lot of them have put their hands up and want to improve and that’s all we can ask for.”
