Police have nabbed a suspect from Delft with over 9000 units of abalone.
Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut says the bust was made yesterday morning in Lwandle, near Strand.
“This morning at around 7.15, members of Western Cape Flying Squad were on patrol on the N2 close to Lwandle when they spotted a suspicious vehicle,” says Traut.
“The vehicle was stopped for a routine inspection which led to the discovery of 9 032 units of abalone. The suspect, a 33-year-old male from Delft, was arrested for the illegal possession of abalone and is due to make a court appearance in Somerset West once he has been charged.”
Authorities were still calculating how much the confiscated perly was worth yesterday.
