In less than 24 hours at least four people were killed in suspected gang-related attacks in Mitchells Plain.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, a 32-year-old man was shot dead in Sunderland Street, Rocklands.
Captain Frederick van Wyk says the man was on his way to his girlfriend’s house when he was attacked.
His body was later found by his girlfriend who went looking for him.
“At 2.45am, police attended to a complaint in Sunderland Street, Rocklands, Mitchells Plain,” Van Wyk says.
“The victim had gone to his girlfriend’s place to get her clothing and left her waiting inside the car.
“She later went looking for him and saw the victim, a 32-year-old male, in the road with multiple gun wounds on his body.
“The motive is currently unknown.”
Hours earlier, a 24-year-old man was shot dead in Lancaster Street, Rocklands.
It’s believed he was waiting for his wife outside Shoprite when he was attacked.
Eyewitnesses believe it was a case of mistaken identity.
Van Wyk says the matter is being probed.
“At about 1.05pm, a 24-year-old man was fatally wounded in Lancaster Road, Rocklands, Mitchells Plain.
“The circumstances are under investigation,” he says.
Hours later in Lentegeur Diego Philander, 19, and Nazeer Kiewit were shot and killed while at a shop.
