A 33-year-old suspected poacher appeared in court yesterday after he was bust with nearly 3 000 perly worth an estimated R300 000 in his car.
Provincial Traffic spokesperson Jacques Mostert says the man was nabbed after his vehicle was pulled off on the N2 near Grabouw at about 10am on Monday.
“One of our officials discovered 2 579 abalone worth R300 000 inside a Toyota Tazz which was pulled off during a routine stop and search at Hoenderstop just outside Grabouw,” says Mostert.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel André Traut confirms a 33-year-old male was arrested.
The man was due to appear in Grabouw Magistrates’ Court yesterday on a charge of illegal possession of abalone.
