PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns are in disarray ahead of their Caf Champions League group-stage opener tomorrow (11.15pm).
Contract chaos and illness meant that coach Pitso Mosimane only has 18 manne on the plane to Algeria to face ES Setif.
The most pressing issue for the Brazilians is that of skipper Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s future; he did make the trip because of a contractual dispute.
But they are also missing Cuthbert Malajila with the flu, Anthony Laffor is suspended and veteran ace Katlego Mashego is out of contract.
Mosimane tells Timeslive: “We are thin now. Because we have people with flu – Teko Modise has flu. We’ve brought him in hoping he’s OK by Saturday.
“In his [Mashego] own discussion he expressed that perhaps he should be looking for a new club rather than honouring the last 15 days of his contract. But also he has a contract.
“But those are the issues that we have had. Rama [Mphahlele] is not going [to Algeria]‚ because he also has contractual issues.”
Downs’ main man Khama Billiat though is fired up.
He tells the club’s website: “Playing against the biggest sides in the competition is always exciting for any player.
“Now we have been given a second chance in the Champions League and have to show that we deserve to be there.”
