The female owner of a Cape Flats petrol station and seven others were busted after police allegedly found cash and drugs worth R100 000 at the business premises.
Members of the City of Cape Town’s Stabilisation Unit responded to “vital information received” when they swooped on the garage in NY1 Gugulethu on Saturday.
An extensive search of the premises was carried out which led the unit to the storeroom where 2000 Mandrax tablets were discovered.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel André Traut says cops are unable to name the garage until they have verified ownership.
The 47-year-old woman and seven men, between the ages of 23 and 57, were arrested and are expected to make their first appearance in Philippi Magistrates’ Court.
“Members of our Stabilisation Unit acted on information of possible drug-related activities at a petrol filling station in NY1 Gugulethu and conducted a search operation at the premises which proved fruitful,” says Traut.
“Hidden in a storeroom, members came across a large quantity of Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value to the tune of R100 000.
“The owner of the filling station, a 47-year-old female, and seven male suspects, aged between 23 and 57 years old, were arrested and are expected to make a court appearance in Philippi on Monday.
“The 2000 Mandrax tablets, together with a substantial amount of cash, were confiscated.”
